Lack of enthusiasm

Lack of enthusiasm

I don’t know where it came from, or how it reached me, but like a Ninja in the night, it crept up on me, unaware and BANG, slammed the flying star into my eyes.  It left me gropping on the ground, blind and lost.  My hands digging the dirt as I searched for what had been ripped from me, pocketed and pinched. My soul. My enthusiasm. How could this happen? And where is the magic … Read entire article »

Getting back on track

Getting back on track

Well, it’s been over a year since I entered the last chapter in my Genesis 2.0 novel, and I finally felt ready to get back into it, having finally had a brilliant idea as to — (sorry, can’t tell you) — but it’s a kicker. I pulled out the Eee Pc form my carry bag and fired it up, ready to plug in the power when I saw the battery had over 2 hours left … Read entire article »

Life + the universe + everything = 42

Blogging on my eee pc, this tiny thing is neat. The keyboard takes no time to adjust to, and you can take it anywhere. Message for writers: Looking for software with zero distractions? Try Q10 (Google it) I have been using it for the past two weeks and it is awesome to write on and every key you hit, it makes the sound of a typewriter clacking away. Ha. It saves everything as a note file, but I opened it with OpenOffice and all the formatting was kept, nothing lost. It is neat. What have I been up to recently? 1) Writing. I started a short story. I’m 1500 words in and thinking I’ll toss them, something doesn’t feel right. The idea has been with me for a few weeks now, so it’s … Read entire article »

The Last Church-CH 3

Here’s chapter three, it’s a little shorter than the others, but it is one of the main chapters. Chapter Three Area City 2368 Professor Cotter was a large man. He filled every inch of the soft cushioned chair he sat in. He had a thick white beard and curly silver-white hair. Gray bags hung from his eyelids due to lack of sleep. His net visor was down and he looked busy typing away on the holographic keyboard. He didn’t like the new system of projecting thoughts onto the screen and sending that as mail and there was always the fear of someone tapping into his brain like those poor girls who’d been mind raped recently. He felt mildly sorry for their foolishness. Why on earth would someone want to be connected to the net … Read entire article »

The Last Church Ch1 2/2

Part two of chapter one for your enjoyment. ‘Receive,’ she said. Ami’s face appeared. She was smiling. Her black hair curled around her shoulders, and her dark eyes twinkled with excitement. It was a full body shot showing her wearing black tights and a white business-like shirt on top of another tee shirt. The business shirt was opened to the third button. ‘Dressed for the occasion, huh doll?’ ‘I feel comfortable in these clothes. You of all people should know. Rachael, are you going like that –- in your birthday suit?’ Ami laughed, old expressions were a favourite game the two of them played. Often the team members had no idea what they were talking about, and the two girls liked the mystery of it. They liked to be looked at, especially when those … Read entire article »

Kiwi SF Anthology

When I found out about this tonight, I just had to help spread the word. Random Static is pleased to announce that we will be publishing an anthology of science fiction and fantasy by New Zealand writers. The anthology, with the working title “A Foreign Country: New Zealand Speculative Fiction”, will contain new fiction by both established authors and new talent. We are running a short story competition for the anthology in association with Au Contraire, the National SF/F Convention. Details are available here; note that membership of the convention is not required to enter. The book will be launched at Au Contraire in August 2010. NB This is not necessarily the next book we’ll be publishing; the open submissions policy means it’s being announced much earlier in development than usual. http://www.randomstatic.net/ … Read entire article »

Dark Scribe interviews Don D’Auria

Dark Scribe interviews Don D’Auria

Dark Scribe: Where do you see the horror genre going in the next 5-10 years? What are your predictions? Don D’Auria: Based on the recent surge of talented newcomers that I’ve seen in my submissions pile, I’d say we’re about to enter a new period of horror, a rebirth in the sense of young, fresh voices and new discoveries. It’s actually very exciting. In 2008 and 2009 I’ve published or will be publishing more new writers … Read entire article »
