Surprise – new money

So, someone used this $10 note at a bookstore and it ended up in my hands. “The special security features on the millennium $10 bank note are world firsts. The most obvious feature is the two silver ferns within the clear window, which reflect rainbow colours when the note is tilted to the light. The other feature isn’t so obvious at first glance. When you fold the note over and look at the map of New Zealand on the back of the note through the clear window, the letters “Y2K” become visible on the North and South Islands. The letters can only be seen with the use of the filter incorporated in the note’s clear window.

This note is not the collectors edition. Bummer. I discovered this on this website. But it still looks really cool. 1.5 million were released. First time in 10 years for me to see one.

Celebrating the New Millennium with the Commemorative $10 Bank Note:

The $10 millennium bank note tells a story of New Zealand as it looks forward to the new millennium. It also marks a new threshold for bank note design in New Zealand. The design features on the $10 millennium bank note talk of New Zealand’s past and its future, and of what is special to this nation. The bank note begins with a Maori war canoe, symbolising New Zealand’s journey. On the same side you can see New Zealand’s future, the signatures of the digital age.

On the back face the “kiwi spirit” is portrayed – the recreational delights of a land alone in the South West Pacific.
